Volvo EX 30: Smallest Volvo That Packs Serious Acceleration!

Volvo has revealed its smallest and the most powerful SUV the EX 30, with the dual motor setup with a 64kWh battery, it can put out 422hp and 543Nm, and can accelerate from 0-100km in 3.5 seconds, which is almost 2-300th of a second quicker than some modern day Super SUVs like the Audi RS Q8 and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, with the long range single motor set up the EX 30 provides a range of 480km on a single charge and with the dual motor set up it can provide 460km on a single charge.

Well, with the help of Volvo, we see 3-pointed seat belts in every single car that gets produced today, which they invented back in 1959, not only that, Volvo is also responsible for inventing some of the electronic safety aids like, the automatic emergency braking was first used in the 2009 Volvo XC 60, they then also introduced the complete automatic braking with pedestrian detection in 2010, which we all see today in modern-day vehicles. And once again Volvo has done something revolutionary, which will probably make some modern-day electric cars and ICE-powered super SUVs feel shame because they have revealed the smallest and the quickest accelerating SUV or car in their line-up, called the EX 30.

With the EX 30 Volvo offers a single motor setup and a dual motor setup, where the single motor RWD version with 51kWh battery which is made out of nickel manganese cobalt to reduce the base variant price, that generates 268hp and 343Nm of peak torque, which provides a range of up to 393km on a single charge and can accelerate from 0-100km in about 5.4 seconds, and the extended range version with 64kWh battery made out of lithium-ion but with the same single motor setup, here with AWD but with similar power and torque figures will do 0-100km in about 5.1 seconds, and provides a range of 480km on a single charge, and if we talk about the dual motor AWD set up with lithium-ion 64kWh battery, it can put out 422hp and 543Nm of peak torque, which makes it the most powerful Volvo produced till date, not only that, it can also accelerate from 0-100km in about 3.5 seconds, which also makes it the quickest accelerating Volvo ever made, the dual motor version provides a range of up to 460km on a single charge.

Talking about the design, the Volvo EX 30 looks like a modern up-market SUV, on the front the grille is replaced by a plastic body-coloured panel with a simple Volvo logo, and the headlights get a signature Volvo look but have a sleeker design with the T-shaped rectangular pixel DRLs inspired from the Volvo EX 90, gives it a more interesting and timeless look from the front, from the side it gets creases above the wheel arches, which make the wheel arches look wider than they actually are, has blacked out roof with a panoramic glass roof, and Volvo will offer 19″, 20″ and 21″ of different alloy wheel options with the EX 30 to choose from, from the rear the EX 30 gets the EX 90 inspired split taillight design, and has a more cleaner look than other modern electric cars, in terms of boot capacity with the EX 30 Volvo offers boot management system, which will increase or decrease the depth of the boot but they haven’t confirmed how big the boot is.

The interior of the Volvo EX 30 is modern yet simplistic, like the dashboard has a similar looking Volvo design touch, but gets a smoother look in the EX 30, the steering looks completely different than the other Volvos, it is in a square shape with your media and other driver-specific controls mounted on it, talking about the infotainment system, Volvo offers a 12″ vertical infotainment system which looks like every other Volvo’s infotainment system, features your wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto with a 5G wireless internet connection, so it can update its system automatically, and instead of placing a sound system, Volvo has placed a Harmon Cardon sound bar over the dash of the EX 30, but as a con, you only get one screen that will do everything for you, and you won’t find a single physical button or knob inside the EX 30, the gear selector also now placed behind the steering wheel. Volvo has used natural and recycled materials for the interior upholstery of the EX 30 and offers 4 different interior colour combinations to choose from.

Being the smallest and the quickest Volvo SUV, the EX 30 is even quicker than its head-to-head rival the Tesla Model Y, which can do 0-100km in just 3.6 seconds, and in terms of looks the Volvo EX 30 will look any day better than the Model Y, because of Volvo’s simplistic yet futuristic design approach, if compared its acceleration figures with a couple of modern super SUVs like the Audi RS Q8 and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the EX 30 is almost 2-300th of a second quicker than both of them and way less expensive as well.
