Supercharged Suzuki Jimny: The Modern Indian Enthusiasts’ New Canvas?

The Jimny was the most anticipated launch of last year, and for good reason. Prior to its arrival on our shores, it had already built a reputation overseas, benefiting from a robust aftermarket scene. This head start meant that when the Jimny finally hit our streets, enthusiasts could immediately start customizing and enhancing it. With its low-compression 1.5L naturally aspirated engine, the Jimny was a modder’s dream, and now, the time has come to witness its true potential unleashed—supercharged!

One of the most exciting aspects of the Jimny as a project car is the extensive array of exterior accessories available. From bumper upgrades and auxiliary lights to lift kits, the possibilities for personalization are endless. Take, for example, the stunning in-house project by 6th Mile Customs. This Jimny boasts a gloss black grille that exudes a premium feel over the stock matte finish. The body cladding has been given a similar treatment, and the wheels look robust enough to handle any terrain. This Jimny isn’t just any off-roader—it’s big, muscular, and purposeful. Up front, it features an aluminum bumper with a winch and two auxiliary lights, complemented by a non-functional snorkel due to the supercharger. A roof rack adds extra luggage capacity, and a twin exhaust setup at the rear completes the look. Simply put, this Jimny is a showstopper.

Pop the hood, and you’ll find a hive of activity. The supercharger sits prominently, necessitating some extra vertical space. Most of the added bulk, however, comes from the water-to-air cooler perched atop the supercharger. The modifications don’t stop there: it’s equipped with an intercooler, new injectors including an additional fifth injector, and a diverter valve. The intake now features an exposed conical air filter for better breathability, and the exhaust system has been fully overhauled for a completely free-flowing setup, allowing the Jimny to roar with newfound vigor.

Driving this supercharged Jimny is a revelation. The setup delivers a robust 130-140 bhp, a significant power bump. However, with these mods costing about 50% of the car’s price, it’s worth considering if the performance gains justify the expense. Nonetheless, this transformed Jimny is a far cry from its factory state. One of the standout features is the Tough Dog suspension, custom-tuned for the 5-door Jimny, making it one of the first of its kind. The suspension drastically improves the driving experience, smoothing out almost every obstacle and providing a planted feel during spirited drives while still offering sufficient feedback.

The Jimny has always been a beloved choice for the avid traveler, yet its sales figures hint at its niche appeal. It’s a darling among its owners and a coveted gem for off-road enthusiasts. When it comes to performance enhancements, the costs can be daunting. Personally, I admire the concept and execution of this supercharged beast, but I’d hesitate to recommend it solely for performance due to the high price tag. Nonetheless, for those passionate about pushing boundaries and transforming their Jimny into a unique powerhouse, the rewards are undoubtedly thrilling.
