MV have renewed their well proven marketing strategy of making ‘Serie Oro’ limited editions for their top of the line bikes; if it worked in the old and uncertain quality days, there is no reason for it to not work now under KTM ownership. The first of the new ‘Serie Oro’ to come out of their next generation motorcycles is the ‘SuperVeloce 1000’, the angriest version of their 1,000cc inline four after the 2019 Claudio F4.
Since the F4 ceased production, the DOHC four banger has only been available with the naked Brutale 1000 and the SV1000 Serie Oro is now the only faired 1000cc MV Augusta made currently, hopefully the regular version will launch by the next EICMA; with it absolutely being clear that it is inspired by the success of SuperVeloce 800 and kind of shares styling with too.
Just outboard the ‘dynamic’ air intakes, a pair of winglets create a fair amount of downforce to keep the bikes’ nose attached to the road at higher speeds; extensive aerodynamic research was carried out in a wind tunnel to achieve the optimal combination for coefficient of drag and lift.
Premium materials are used everywhere to obtain high structural rigidity and keep the weight minimum, like the carbon fiber fairing and also a total of 41 other components being made of this. Leather and Alcantara in conjunction with each other have been utilized to make a top quality rider seat.
The engine is one of the hottest performers in its class and the Serie Oro is powered by its latest Euro-5 complaint version. The over-square (79mm bore, 50.9mm stroke) 998cc mill generates 208 HP at 13,000 rpm and 117 N-m of torque at 11,000 rpm due to its very unique semi-hemispherical heads with four titanium valves per cylinder which also have conical cam profiles.
Compression ratio is a massive 13.4 : 1 and the motor is controlled by the latest Eldor Nemo 2.1 ECU. The injection system features eight Mikuni injectors, four larger capacity ones at the top in shower mode and the other four next to the valve heads. The balancer shaft is of the counter-rotating types, it cancels almost all the residual vibes generated by the primary imbalance of the inline four.
The unit is also equipped with forged titanium con-rods and features many complex solutions to reduce friction like DLC treatment to the tappet type cam followers, special Daido bearings at both rods and main ends and Nikasil cylinder bore treatment; all of this enables the engine to safely rev to 14,000 rpm!
The electronics suite is now in line with the competiton, with all the safety and riding assistance systems that a bike with this much performance needs. At the heart of all this lies an inertia based system, receiving data from all the sensors present and manages intervention of the safety assistance systems that include eight levels of traction control, wheelie control, four ride modes, cornering ABS and electronically assisted up-down quick-shifter.
The Öhlins suspension components are electronically managed as well: a 43mm Nix EC front fork, a TTX EC gas charged rear shock and a steering damper. Frame is a classic steel tube trellis unit with integrated forged aluminum rear plates clamping a single sided cast aluminum swingarm.
Braking is by Brembo that consists twin front 320mm discs with Stylema Mono-block four piston radial mount calipers and a rear single 220mm rotor coupled to a two piston caliper, with all of this being managed by Continental MK 100 cornering ABS with rear wheel lift mitigation.
This is a relativley compact superbike with a 1,415mm wheelbase. The wheels are made of forged aluminum and 17 inches in diameter, shod in developed for this motorcycle Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa V4 SP tyres that have a red profile.
The Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro is a highly exclusive, limited edition machine and will be available only in 500 individually numbered units, all priced at €70,700 (₹65 Lakh!) each.
