Maserati have been known for sports and supercars since the 20th century, but they decided to divulge into the ever growing SUV market with the Levante all the way back in 2016. They have since then expanded their SUV range with the smaller Grecale and now recently introduced it in India as well. Altough, it has been on sale in global markets for almost two years now already.
Given the brand image, people expect a powerful powertrain. You get two engine options: a 2.0L four cylinder mild hybrid or a 3.0L turbo V6 and there are a total of three trim levels to choose from. The GT and Modena get the smaller motor, but performance is boosted for the Modena. The GT churns out 300 HP and 450 N-m, while the Modena is tuned to produce 330 HP. The V6 equipped Trofeo makes a healthy 530 HP, 620 N-m and touches the 100 km/h mark in under 4 seconds. You get only an eight-speed ZF sourced automatic gearbox across all the variants.
The Grecale is still a pretty looking SUV, the iconic grille and a smooth design language make it stand out amongst others in traffic.
The cabin is filled with high quality leather and soft touch materials. Aluminium accents give it a premium look. One downside of the interior is the lack of physical buttons. All operations are done via the digital screens. You control the air conditioning through an 8.8-inch screen, while you get a 12.3-inch driver’s display and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen.
The feature list is pretty impressive as well. Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree parking cameras, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen for rear passengers are just some of the features that the Grecale comes equipped with.
Pricing for the base GT trim starts from ₹1.3 crore onwards, while the Modena trim costs slightly more at around ₹1.5 crore and the Trofeo sets you back by ₹2 crore. While it costs less than the Levante, it still has similar power figures as its older sibling.
