The Revival Of DC with DC2: E-Tanq and Europa

Introduction

DC Designs is back after a brief hiatus from automotive production with a collaboration with Mercury EV-Tech and unveiled two products: e-TANQ and Europa. The e-TANQ is a 650hp offroad machine whilst the Europa is a mobile showroom. Yes, you heard that right! The brand that made body kits with cars like Scorpio, and Fortuner and only briefly entered car production with the DC Avanti, is venturing into the electric vehicle market blazing their guns with new partners! Let’s dive into what they have on offer at Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025!

DC Designs’ Storied Past

DC Designs has relaunched its brand as DC2 and with a joint venture with two established brands plans to enter producing vehicles yet again. However, they don’t have the best “reputation” for producing cars. Dilip Chabbria started DC Designs and began giving their unique touches to cars like the Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Scorpio etc. They gained notoriety after building a Toyota MR2 a little-known purple car that was the protagonist of the movie “Tarzan: The Wonder Car”. That car became iconic of the era and rules our hearts to this day.

They were able to position themselves as the flagbearers of custom-made cars after that point. However, it wasn’t a smooth journey. We feel renaming the brand to DC2 is an attempt at preventing the negative attention from investors and potential customers alike.

DC2 e-TANQ

The DC2 e-TANQ is an attempt at an electric commercial vehicle which is “designed to revolutionize urban and commercial transportation”. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the e TANQ is its powertrain, a 180 kWh battery pack which would deliver 650hp! There are multiple design cues from the design that will be easy on the eyes. The giant wheels and the giant grille mimic Beach Dune Buggies and will surely be a Mall Crawler as opposed to utilizing its offroad prowess. However, with credit to DC2, the design is unique and maybe will grow on you. It is a joint venture between DC2 with Mercury EV Tech Ltd, a credible brand, which will prevent you from pondering whether the vehicle will reach the production stage. Even if we may not be the biggest fans of the design, it is reminiscent of DC Concepts and will appeal to buyers who’ve always been a fan of the design language.

DC2 Europa

DC2 wasn’t done there as they also unveiled the Europa. It is supposed to be a “one-of-a-kind showroom on wheels”. It will be produced in collaboration with Goldmedal Electricals, which is one of India’s leading FMEG (Fast Moving Electrical Goods) Companies. This showroom also has the typical DC design cues of an intimidating front end and side-opening door. The interior renders aren’t shown but it will deliver a luxurious experience. This gargantuan EV Vanity Van was designed for Rs. 18 crore! This is a product that will help boost the sales of the brand as it enters mass production. This vehicle can also mitigate giant marketing budgets as they should have the mobility of advertising from place to place without being stationary. This machine allows the brand to be visible at strategic times and locations without needing to spend money on things like lease or rent agreements.

Closing Comments

It will be fascinating to see one of India’s most renowned brands re-enter the automotive landscape. The question of price tag, battery range, warranty and other important questions still lingers in our heads. However, the brand needs to succeed this time and establish itself in a growing EV landscape. It is evident that DC2 is trying his level best to instil confidence in the minds of potential customers and current business partners, the real question of meeting deadlines and giving the customers a satisfactory experience should be the prime focus.
